Homegrown Kent: The Vendors of Haymaker Farmer's Market

Every Saturday morning around the year local gardeners, crafts-makers, and other vendors gather in Kent at the Haymaker Farmer’s Market. This essay explores the vendors who make the Farmer’s Market possible. The Haymaker Farmer’s Market is very inclusive and allows a wide variety of individuals to participate. Some are small business owners looking for other markets for their products, some are just individuals trying to share their hobby with the town. No matter their background, however, they all share an enthusiasm about their role in the Haymaker Farmer’s Market, and the market’s role in the community as a whole. The people at the market every week are happy to talk about what they do, and are quick to help the other vendors with whom they work. The essay is structured as a series of diptychs: a portrait of the person or people who run a stand at the market, and a detail of their product. The essay shows some of the personality of those who make this local Farmer’s Market possible in Kent, and brings some of their enthusiasm for homegrown business to the page.
